GMHL Expansion: Ville-Marie PiratesMarch 11th, 2017 at 7:09AM March 11th, 2017 3:45PM
The Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League is very proud to confirm that the expansion in the GMHL will be happening across the border once more as the GMHL is returning to Ville-Marie with the Pirates franchise being awarded.
The Pirates will be the second team in Quebec and will provide fellow out-of-province franchise Temiscaming with a new rival. The Pirates will be playing in the North Division out of Olympia de Ville-Marie Arena.
This will be the second foray for the GMHL as the Ville-Marie Dragons (now the Parry Sound Islanders) once called this town home and although the fan support was always strong, the team decided to relocate.
The Team will be led by coach William Bendi who is an elite level coach with more than 25 years of experience including several tournament and regional championships and is known as someone who can get the most out of his team as a disciplined coach who holds players accountable.
Another important aspect of the new franchise is the priority that the Pirates are putting on education for their players, with a partnership allowing access to some programs at the Frere Moffat Centre in Ville-Marie.
GMHL President Bob Russell is very excited to be returning to Ville-Marie and is very confident in the fact that the franchise could see much success due to the fan base that was so supportive of the Dragons franchise years ago
The Pirates website is located here and you can visit them to find out more information on how to support or even play for the franchise.
